Bucharest hospital fire kills four Covid-19 patients

A fire in Bucharest’s main hospital, which treats Covid-19 patients, killed four people on Friday January 29, the Romanian Inspectorate for Emergencies (ISU) announced.

“Three patients were found dead and a fourth later died”, said Secretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior, Raed Arafat, specifying that they were patients with Covid-19.

120 evacuated patients

“About 120 patients who were in the same ward were evacuated”, told Agence France-Presse (AFP) a spokesperson for the ISU, Bogdan Toma. The causes of the fire were not immediately known, he said.

On November 14, ten patients with the new coronavirus had died in a violent fire that broke out in the intensive care unit of the departmental hospital of Piatra-Neamt, in the northeast of the country.
