Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht suggested the organization was focused on the upcoming NFL Draft and that any reports of Tom Brady going to the Miami Dolphins were just “chatter”.

According to multiple reports earlier this month, Brady had a master plan to join the Dolphins front office after his retirement and take a stake while somehow luring Sean Payton out of early retirement and exchanging with the New Orleans Saints the contractual rights of the coach.

Brady originally announced his decision to retire from the NFL on the morning of February 1. Brady was expected to be named minority owner of the Dolphins the week before the Super Bowl, Pro Football Talk reported. According to the Boston Globe, Miami making Brady a top team executive would have been the Tampa Bay quarterback’s exit. The Dolphins could have approached the Bucs in a trade for his contractual rights to return and play quarterback during the 2022 season.

The Brian Flores racial discrimination lawsuit and tanking allegations upset the plan.

On Tuesday, Licht was asked about the chatter surrounding the reports.

“I’m making a chatter of it. … We’re focused on building our team here with the draft and we’re all excited. We’re all phased here – Tom, Todd [Bowles]myself, Byron [Leftwich]the whole coaching staff this season,” Licht said.

He added that there was no talk of Brady getting a stake in the Buccaneers.

“The only discussions we had with Tom was when he came back. We are delighted with this year and can’t wait to get started,” added Licht.
