Have a nice day Bruce Springsteen!
Yeah, it’s official. Springsteen’s birthday is September 23 – he’s 74 – and it’s Bruce Springsteen Day in the state of New Jersey.
Governor Phil Murphy made the announcement at the inaugural American Music Honors event, presented by the Bruce Springsteen Archives, on April 15.
“There have been 14 administrations in New Jersey since Springsteen started performing,” Murphy said. “I can’t believe it took this long.”
Meanwhile, Springsteen fans around the world have been celebrating the date for years.
“Bruce Springsteen is one of the most recognizable, iconic and influential musicians – and New Jerseyans – of all time,” Murphy said in a statement. “It’s important that we recognize Bruce for all he has done and will continue to do, from donating his music to donating his time to the causes he cares about.”
Fans will celebrate Springsteen Day and his birthday around the world. The Spring-Nuts fan club plans to have fun and send The Boss a group birthday message on social media.
Bruce Springsteen Day 2023 sees The Boss and the E Street Band take a break
Springsteen and the E Street Band take a break while The Boss is treated for symptoms of peptic ulcer disease. The remainder of the E Street Band’s September concerts have been postponed.
The legendary rocker posted a note on his official Instagram page informing his fans that as of the concert scheduled for September 7 in Syracuse, New York, he would be taking a break on the advice of his doctors.
“Here on E Street, we are heartbroken to have to postpone these shows,” the statement said. “First of all, my apologies to our fabulous Philly fans, who we missed a few weeks ago. We will be back to repeat these concerts and more.”
Springsteen signed off: “We’ll be back soon. Love and God bless you all.”
In August, Springsteen unusually postponed two concerts at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, citing illness. But he was back for a trio of home stadium players at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Springsteen was born September 23, 1949 at the former Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. He is the firstborn child of Adele and Douglas Springsteen of Freehold. They would have two more children, Virginia and Pamela.
