Browns QB Baker Mayfield faces backlash over remark from ‘booed’ fans
The backlash over Baker Mayfield’s latest interview continues to mount after the Browns quarterback said he would ‘love’ to boo fans at their job – much like he did last season during a campaign lethargic in Cleveland.
Mayfield appeared on the “Ya Never Know” podcast on Wednesday and said, “I would love to show up in someone’s cabin and boo them and watch them fall apart.”
Fans have taken to social media to troll Mayfield over her “dumb” comments.
“@bakermayfield invited to boo at my job if I pick up a seven figure check,” one fan tweeted.
Mayfield, who has a guaranteed salary of $18.8 million this coming season, was also compared to “an immature whiner” by another reviewer.
“The Mayfield baker is softer than hot butter. Worse, he is now in the same category as Sam Darnold. If someone in a box was making tens of millions a year, I’m sure they’d appreciate the boos. They wouldn’t be immature whiners like those two. a user tweeted.
another writing“It’s always been one of the dumbest takes professional athletes have. Your job is entertainment. You show a talent for entertaining. That certainly doesn’t justify hate speech or any form of violence, but shut up- you with the moans about fans booing. The fans don’t owe you adoration.
Meanwhile, some fans have been intrigued by the idea of Mayfield booing them at work, or even welcoming him.
“I would like to officially invite Baker to come to my work and be a ‘fan.’ a user expressed.
Elsewhere on the podcast, Mayfield said he felt ‘disrespected’ by the Browns after he traded and signed embattled Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson to a record five-year, $230 million, fully guaranteed deal. , last month.
The Browns became an unexpected entrant in the Watson contest after a Texas grand jury decided not to indict the quarterback on criminal charges in early March. However, Watson still faces 22 civil lawsuits from women accusing him of sexual misconduct, and he could still face suspension by the league as the lawsuits against him are pending.
Watson also avoided indictment by a second Texas grand jury last month.
Although Mayfield remains on the Browns’ roster, the former No. 1 overall pick is “ready for the next chapter” and mentioned the Seahawks as a potential trade destination after Seattle traded Russell Wilson to Denver in March.
“I’m just looking for stabilization right now,” Mayfield said.
Following Watson’s trade, Mayfield requested a trade from the Browns, with the Colts being his reported first choice. Indianapolis then signed veteran quarterback Matt Ryan, who was traded by the Falcons.
