Former Georgetown University basketball player Monica McNutt is a basketball analyst for ESPN and has loved the Brooklyn Nets’ odds since Kyrie Irving’s return.

Irving returned to the league after the franchise reversed its stance on having an unvaccinated player available only for road games. Since returning this month, Irving has played three games, all on the road, of course.

The Brooklyn Nets put on a show against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night, winning the Eastern Conference showdown by 26 points. In ESPN’s “First Take”, co-host Charly Arnolt asked Monica McNutt how scary the Nets look. Monica quickly responded by saying:

“It was horrible. It was a scary movie, like pulling out the mask. It’s the realization of everything the Nets were meant to be last year.

The trio of James Harden, Kevin Durant and Irving formed last season, but due to injuries the three weren’t together as much. Irving even got injured in the playoffs, leaving the heavy lifting in the hands of Durant and Harden. Now that they’re together, games like these could become commonplace.

McNutt added:

“Look, the offense is a given. James Harden, Kevin Durant – the best scoring duo in the league right now. And then you add Kyrie Irving and whatever he brings to the table; the score is a given.

The 138-112 victory in Chicago was heartily for the Nets cast. With Harden and Durant combining for 52 points, Kessler Edwards, Blake Griffin and DeAndre ‘Bembry were active defensively. The Nets carried out eleven flights, not hesitating to throw their bodies on the ground. McNutt said she felt the unit was coming together, saying:

“What impresses me the most, Jay (Williams), is what they do defensively and the way these types of roles have continued to emerge – Kessler Edwards, Cam Thomas. Not that you need a ton of them, but they’re in exactly the right place. They learn every day alongside these superstars.

Brooklyn was able to limit DeMar DeRozan’s contribution, as he finished with just 19 points, scoring 43.8%. Nikola Vucevic only made five of his 13 shots as the Nets’ defense was relentless. McNutt acknowledged the Nets’ defensive effort, saying:

“So to me you’re talking about this team getting better defensively and putting it together – I thought the Brooklyn Nets were good with or without Kyrie. With Kyrie, OH MY GOODNESS !!

After making his comeback against the Indiana Pacers, Irving faced the Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls. Although he had a bad shooting night against the Bulls, he made his presence felt in other areas. In 25 minutes, Irving had nine points, four rebounds and three assists.

Kyrie Irving could be available in Nets home games if Brooklyn is willing to pay a “small fine”, per @SBondyNYDN 1st offense: Warning 2nd offense: $ 1,000 fine 3rd offense: $ 2,000 fine 4th offense: $ 5,000 fine 5th offense for infinite offenses: $ 5,000 fine (Via nydailynews.com/sports/basketb…) https: // t.co/3WXCfxdULm

The Nets have two home games to come before heading off on a four-game road trip starting with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Irving will try to capitalize on this streak to put his rhythm in order. The Nets, on paper, are one of the better teams right now, but fans will have to wait and see how that turns out on the pitch.
