Police in the western suburb of Brookfield are slowly releasing new details of a stabbing that occurred in the community on Monday, prompting a massive search and prompting the closure of schools in the area.
Police say the incident happened in the 4400 block of Madison Avenue on Monday afternoon, when a woman allegedly stabbed her partner inside a residence.
The woman eventually fled the area, but in the moments after the stabbing, police encouraged residents to stay away from the scene.
Elementary schools in Congress Park and Lincoln were both temporarily closed during a search for the suspect, with dozens of parents gathering outside to pick up their children in the late afternoon.
About two hours after the stabbing, police said the area had been cleared and an investigation into the stabbing was still ongoing.
Police say the incident was an isolated domestic incident and there is currently no danger to the public.
