Britney Spears deletes Instagram following news of engagement

Britney Spears deactivated her Instagram account on Tuesday, just days after using the platform to announce her engagement and a month after promising to post less.

Spears, 39, chose to deactivate his account and take a break from his favorite social media platform, NBC News confirmed on Tuesday.

“Don’t worry folks… I’m just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement,” she later wrote. Tweeter, by adding the diamond ring and the wink face emojis. “!!!! I come back soon.”

The international pop star told fans in August that she would post less in the future.

“Unfortunately the news has been pretty nasty telling some horrible, nasty lies about me so I’m going to post a little less from now on !!!!” Spears wrote in a caption last month.

The deactivation comes just two days after she used the platform to announce her engagement to longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari. She also reposted screenshots from an education post on Monday with a caption telling fans that she loved them and was counting on her being released from her tutelage.

“Again… team #Free Britney, you guys f —— kick ass,” she wrote in the now deleted post, according to Variety.

She has been under guardianship since 2008, but onlookers at the 13-year-old affair are hoping she will be free soon. Her father, Jamie Spears, filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court last week to end his guardianship.

The next hearing in his case is scheduled for September 29.

Spears’ Instagram account was seen as a direct glimpse into the singer’s life by fans, who carefully screened her posts for any posts that may have come from the singer. Britney’s Gram, a podcast that helped boost the #FreeBritney fan campaign, contains numerous episodes devoted to Spears’ social media analysis.

In the podcast’s first episode for November 2017, comedians Tess Barker and Barbara Gray called Spears’ Instagram one of the “most fascinating” social media accounts.

“As we think, that’s probably her only real outlet,” Gray said in 2017. “I don’t think she really has much control over her social media or anything like that. Looks like this is the place where she harnesses all of her Britney wit.
