British sprinter CJ Ujah says he is “shocked and devastated” after being provisionally suspended for alleged anti-doping rule violation.

The 27-year-old won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics with the men’s 4x100m relay team, but it emerged on Thursday that there was an “unfavorable analytical result” from the tests that took place during the Games.

Ujah said in a statement to the Palestinian Authority news agency: “It took me a few days to process the information I received Thursday shortly before it was released to the public.

“I am completely shocked and devastated by this news.

“To be absolutely clear, I am not a cheater and I have never taken, and would never take, a prohibited substance.

“I love my sport and I know my responsibilities both as an athlete and as a teammate.

“I follow formal processes and will not make any further comments until it is appropriate to do so.”

Ujah has been found to have the presence / use of the banned substances ostarine and S-23, which are selective androgen receptor modulators (MRSA) and aid in muscle building.

If the case against Ujah is proven, the British relay quartet, also including Zharnel Hughes, Richard Kilty and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, risk having their silver medals withdrawn.

The IAU has confirmed that Bahraini 1,500m runner Sadik Mikhou, Georgian shot putter Benik Abramyan and Kenyan sprinter Mark Otieno Odhiambo have also been provisionally suspended following unfavorable testing.
