British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited Kyiv on Saturday and announced that the UK would provide Ukraine with a new air defense package.
The £50million package will include 125 anti-aircraft guns and technology to counter drones supplied by Iran.
“I am here today to say that the UK and our allies will continue to stand with Ukraine as it fights to end this barbaric war and deliver a just peace,” said the British leader, according to a statement from Downing Street.
The UK is “providing new air defence, including anti-aircraft guns, radar and anti-drone equipment, and stepping up humanitarian support for the cold and harsh winter ahead”, he said. .
The aid is expected to include £12million for the World Food Programme, £4million for the International Organization for Migration and winter kits for Ukrainian troops.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Sunak for this support.
“With friends like you by our side,” the Ukrainian leader wrote, “we are confident of our victory.”
