Brighton’s Evan Ferguson seen on crutches after Fabinho’s tackle which left the Liverpool midfielder ‘distraught’ in FA Cup exit

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson was pictured on crutches after a poor tackle from Liverpool’s Fabinho took him out of their FA Cup tie.

The out-of-form Brazilian midfielder had just entered the pitch in his side’s 2-1 loss, before putting his boot on the back of the Irishman’s ankle.

Fabinho looked distressed as referee David Coote approached, the official producing a yellow card, before a VAR review reaffirmed his appeal.

It was no consolation for Ferguson, however, who left the pitch after a spell on the pitch under treatment.

Speaking after the incident, talkSPORT commentator and former Premier League striker David Connolly said: “Fabinho will know he shouldn’t have taken on this challenge.

“Fingers crossed it’s not as bad as it sounds for Ferguson…even Fabinho’s reaction, he’s looking at the stars, he’s distraught.”

After the match, Ferguson was seen in the halls of AmEx on crutches, relieving his damaged right foot.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was asked if the 18-year-old was ok, and he replied: “No, we’ll see in the next few days if it’s a significant injury.”
