Brentford snatch a point with brilliant comeback against Leicester with Jamie Vardy picking up the assist after ‘Wagatha Christie’ taunts

Leicester City and Brentford shared the spoils in their first Premier League game with the Foxes failed to see their 2-0 lead.

Lack of signings and fears of losing key players have been central concerns for the King Power this summer, and Brendan Rodgers’ side could not drown out the background noise.

Wesley Fofana and James Maddison both started the draw for the Foxes and before kick-off Rodgers confirmed his two players would be focused on the draw against the Bees.

“100% they are ready,” he said.

“It’s always a difficult time before the transfer window closes and there’s always gossip and speculation. Both players are very important players for us.

Goalkeeper Danny Ward was also called upon following the departure of Kasper Schmeichel to Nice.

Meanwhile, for Brentford, Bees manager Thomas Frank made his debut for new signings Ben Mee and Aaron Hickey for the club’s opener of their second Premier League season.

With big boots to fill, Ward did well to deny talismanic Bees forward Ivan Toney 18 minutes later.

And straight after his fine save, the Foxes kicked into high gear, with Newcastle transfer target Maddison sending a diving header effort just wide of David Raya’s post.

Soon the pressure from Leicester paid off, with a header effort from Timothy Castagne entering straight in from a Maddison corner this time.

“It’s unusual for Leicester to score from a free kick rather than concede!” Perry Groves, co-host of the Sunday session of talkSPORT, said.

Ward made a save with his feet to deny Yoane Wissa, but as the half progressed the Bees looked flat as the Foxes took control of the game.

And Leicester capitalized on their dominance in the draw just 40 seconds after the restart.

After Bee Mee failed to get the ball out of harm’s way, Maddison and Jamie Vardy – who had been given a stick from the Brentford end for the libel suit against his wife ‘Wagatha Christie’ – combined to set up Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to double Leicester’s lead.

The midfielder stole the ball with his left foot past David Raya from 25 yards – scoring his second Premier League goal.

But soon, the Bees cut the deficit in half.

Frank made a double substitution as the hour mark approached, fielding Josh Dasilva and Keane Lewis-Potter for Mathais Jensen and Ben Mee.

And the Bees’ switches were all the difference, with Toney capitalizing on a Rico Henry through ball after Maddison lost possession deep in his own half.

Then, as the tie entered its final five minutes, Frank’s tactic proved just for the money, as substitute Dasilva took fire from the edge of the box as neither of the Foxes failed. came to close it.

His left-footed shot bent into the top of Ward’s net, which was left dazed just beyond his line, leading to the Foxes and Bees splitting the spoils – comeback complete.
