Brentford boss Thomas Frank jokes that he ‘doesn’t care’ about the opening of matches and relishes the ‘surreal’ feeling of playing in the Premier League with Arsenal first

Thomas Frank pays no attention to Brentford’s Premier League opener – but admitted that seeing them announced made their high-flying status ‘real’.

The schedules for the new 2021/22 campaign were announced on Wednesday and there are some tantalizing clashes on opening day.

The Bees will mark their debut Premier League season with a home game against Arsenal on August 14.

The championship play-off winners, who haven’t played in the top flight since the 1946/47 season, will then travel to Crystal Palace in their first away game on August 21.

A home clash against West London rivals Chelsea takes place on October 16 ahead of the second leg at Stamford Bridge on April 2.

Frank, however, pays no attention to matches and is just excited for his team to participate in what many believe is the most competitive league in football.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “To be honest I don’t care who we are up against in the first game!

“We are looking forward to playing in the best league in the world with some of the best teams in the world.

“Of course Arsenal are one of the best teams in the world which is crazy. I really, really hope to have full capacity because I can’t wait for all of our fans to be back at the new stadium.

Frank admitted seeing Brentford at Premier League matches this morning made everything a little more real

He added: “Since we got promoted, which was an amazing feeling, it’s been a few weeks and we’ve been trying to relax and take a vacation.

“There’s also been work with transfers and stuff like that, but when you do that, it’s just normal.

“But whether he’s a Championship player or a Premier League player it doesn’t matter, but this morning was the first sign that it was real. We’re actually in the Premier League.
