BREAKING: Hawley releases new whistleblower report detailing Secret Service failures surrounding attempted assassination of President Trump

Monday, September 16, 2024

The Hawley report was shared with the House Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump to complete its investigation.

WASHINGTON — In the wake of a second assassination attempt on former President Donald J. Trump, U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) released a new 22-page report detailing the failures of the U.S. Secret Service in connection with the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Trump. The Hawley report has been forwarded to the House Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump for further investigation.

The findings of the Hawley report are extremely damaging to the credibility of the Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). They reveal a pattern of neglect, negligence, and gross incompetence that goes back years, culminating in a near-failed assassination attempt.

In addition to a comprehensive review of previous whistleblower allegations uncovered by Senator Hawley, the Hawley Report includes: new findings from whistleblowers that have not yet been reported, including:

  • Secret Service intelligence units (teams of Secret Service agents paired with local and state law enforcement to handle suspicious person reports) were absent from Butler’s rally.
  • The hospital site where former President Trump received treatment after the shooting was poorly secured, and the hospital’s site agent was unable to answer basic questions about the site’s security.

To date, the Secret Service and DHS have provided virtually no answers, and many questions remain, including:

  • Who in the Secret Service or DHS made the decision to deny sniper cover to the rooftop from which Thomas Crooks shot former President Trump on July 13?
  • When will the Secret Service or DHS publicly release the identity of the lead agent at the rally site and the lead agent for Butler’s visit?
  • Did the Acting Director of the Secret Service ever withhold resources from the Trump campaign or the USSS sniper teams, as has been reported in the press?

The Secret Service, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security have all attempted to evade any real accountability. Their leaders have slowed down Congressional investigations, misled the American people, and shirked their responsibilities. DHS is now reportedly pressuring the Secret Service not to comply with Congressional requests for documents related to the attempted assassination of Trump. The American people deserve answers.

Background:

As a member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Senator Hawley was a leader in the investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Trump. He personally inspected the Butler site and made public numerous whistleblower allegations. Previous allegations included agents being discouraged from requesting additional security measures and seeing lax security at the Trump rally, abandoned posts on the roof where the shooter was located, and reduced security due to decisions by Acting Director Rowe. On July 30, Senator Hawley questioned Acting Director Rowe in a Senate hearing. The Acting Director confirmed that the Secret Service had indeed refused drones from local law enforcement, a detail brought to light by a whistleblower in contact with Senator Hawley’s office.
