Boys, 12 and 15, stab gas station employee to death: police

Two young boys have been accused of stabbing a gas station worker to death.

The incident happened early Thursday morning in Clinton, Maryland, with Prince George’s County police being called to the scene around 4:40 a.m. Upon arriving at the gas station, officers found an employee , Israel Akingbesote, 37, suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries and died, Fox 5 DC reported.

A day later on Friday, police announced the arrest of two young suspects in the case: two boys, aged 12 and 15. Authorities have not released their names or any part of their identities due to their young age. As the investigation now stands, police believe the boys stabbed the worker after he robbed the gas station.

Both boys were in police custody on Friday, with first-degree murder and assault charges brought against them. The oldest of the suspects will be charged as an adult, while the 12-year-old will be charged as a minor.

In a statement, Prince George Police Chief Malik Aziz said the incident fits a troubling trend in youth crime in the county.

“This is a tragic situation,” Aziz said, according to Fox 5. “Two minors are currently in custody for killing Mr. Akingbesote while he was at work. We have seen far too many minors committing violent crimes. Seven minors have been arrested this year alone involving homicides Committing violent crimes are serious offenses and we intend to do our part to hold accountable anyone, regardless of age, who breaks the law in this county. We will continue to seek justice for victims of crime.

The county police department is asking any member of the public with information related to the case to contact 301-516-2512.

Newsweek contacted the Prince George’s County Police Department for comment.

Another tragic stabbing incident occurred in New Orleans last week, when a mother involved in a custody battle allegedly attacked her own children, aged 2 and 4. The eldest, a girl, died of her injuries, while the youngest, a boy, was left in critical condition.

The father-of-two rushed to the scene after the mother posted a disturbing video on Instagram in which she appeared covered in blood. He was able to escape with the injured children, but had to break a window to get inside the house.
