Vasyl Lomachenko took up arms to help defend Ukraine against Russian invaders.
The pound-for-pound boxing superstar was pictured with an M16 assault rifle, after joining the Belgorod-Dniester Terror Defense Battalion in his hometown.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist and former three-weight world champion has returned to the southern region of Ukraine where he was born to join the resistance.
On his official Facebook page, Lomachenko posted a photo of himself dressed in a military uniform with a rifle alongside the caption: “The Belgorod-Dnestrovsky Territorial Defense Battalion has been formed and armed.
“In territorial defense, boxer Vasily Lomachenko informed mayor Vitaly Grazhdan.”
Lomachenko joins former heavyweight champions the Klitschko brothers – Kyiv mayor Vitali and Wladimir – to defend their country against Russia.
Despite their status and fame, they all decided to stand up and fight for their country.
The Klitschko brothers called on the world to show their support for Ukraine.
Wladimir said: “I call on all international partners to observe this strategy that is currently unfolding in Ukraine and this senseless war that will have no winners, but losers.
“I just want to tell you that we must remain united in the face of this Russian aggression. Don’t let this happen in Ukraine, don’t let this happen in Europe and possibly the world.
“United we are strong. Support Ukraine. Thank you.”
Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk – due for a rematch with Anthony Joshua in the coming months – has also returned to Ukraine as they battle Russian aggression.
He had this message: “I would like to speak to the Russian people. If we consider ourselves brothers, orthodox. Don’t let your children go to our country, don’t fight with us.
“I also address President Vladimir Putin. You can stop this war. Please sit down and negotiate it with us without complaints.
“Our children, wives, grannies are hiding in the basements…
“We are here in our own country, we cannot help it – we are defending… Stop! Stop this war.
