Boxing: Hassan Hamdan vs Trent Girdham fight result | Video

By Zachary Gates and Matt Bungard

The nastiest fight on the Newcastle card went the distance, but many wondered if even six rounds was enough when a fight broke out after the fight.

Hassan Hamdan beat Trent Girdham by unanimous decision, fighting back after a first-round knockdown to record an emotional win.

Girdham’s corner was furious in the final round, shouting at the referee to disqualify Hamdan for a throw, which knocked their fighter out of the ring.

The pair nearly came to blows at Tuesday’s weigh-in and had nothing nice to say about each other in the build-up.

They shared a hug after the final bell sounded, but not so much when the scores were announced.

A seething Girdham stormed out of the ring as Hamdan attempted to reconcile, leading to the winner shouting “fuck you” a few times as the two sides battled.

“If he had shook my hand there, I would have given him all the rap in the world,” Hamdan said in the in-ring interview.

Hamdan’s trainer, Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech, backed him up.

“I’m a little disappointed with Rodney and those guys…if they thought their fighter won the fight, there was something wrong with them,” Fenech said.

“It was a close fight, it was a close fight. I thought the score, 58-57, was pretty fair. I think it was a great fight, both guys should be congratulated, and we shouldn’t don’t need that shit after a big fight like that.”
