boxing fight news, Danny Green, Turf War

Australian boxing champion Danny Green believes Sonny Bill Williams is in the ‘driver’s seat’ in negotiations to fight Paul Gallen after ‘wiping out’ Barry Hall last month.

Green was Hall’s promoter for the Turf War fight and an expert commentator when Stan Event launched a new pay-per-view platform at the Aware Super Theater in Sydney.

Williams has called out Gallen after his knockout victory while trainer Andy Lee boldly predicts he will be fighting for a world title within two years.

β€œHe talked about his passion to do the most in the sport of boxing and nothing is impossible for Sonny Bill Williams,” Green told Wide World of Sports.

“His coach is very successful on him and what he did against Barry was phenomenal. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to be an easy show against Paul, if that’s where he and Khoder Nasser are going.

“Styles make fights but Sonny is in the driver’s seat when it comes to negotiations. The guy is a beast and his boxing skills and prowess have blossomed. I’m excited to see how far he can go because Barry is a good puncher and a skilled boxer – he just wiped it out, which was a huge shock because Barry had a great side.”

Green described Turf War as “a pioneering moment in Australian boxing history”.

“To help Stan launch a whole new pay-per-view platform, I never imagined I’d do something like this when I was younger, hanging out at the beach. As always, Khoder was a man of his word and co-promoted with him was another huge success.

“It was a magical night and the venue where Sonny Bill Williams came out was pretty electric. The Jackson England vs. Paul Fleming fight – people who know boxing very well – agree it’s a high profile fight like you you’ll see all over the world.. It was worthy to be on the Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua undercard, it was that high level.

Green was unsure whether Hall would continue his boxing career at age 45.

“I’ve lost massive fights and that’s never nice. Barry got really nervous, nerves unfortunately got the better of him at night and he couldn’t shoot and show what he’s capable of. people don’t realize the risk that Sonny took, when you advance to the first round and try to assert your authority and your aggression, you take a risk by throwing a lot of punches.

“You can get counter punched and hurt yourself. Sometimes it takes a while for people to figure out their timing and placement, but Sonny just went to the front foot and put it on Barry. Sonny would have been just as nervous but he didn’t. “Don’t let the nerves get the best of him. A boxing match can be over in an instant, which is why it’s so exciting and unpredictable.”

And what’s next for Green Machine Boxing?

“Let’s hope to form the next world champion that Australia can follow. To get the first fight night on Stan, a brand new team, it was a fantastic sight.

“It really made people aware, that the sport of boxing has a lot of appeal for Australians and to have another way for people to watch high quality boxing, it’s pretty cool to be part of it.”
