Boxer hospitalized after ‘fighting an invisible opponent’ and empty punching in disturbing scenes as rival celebrates Cristiano Ronaldo ‘Sui’

Previously undefeated boxer Simiso Buthelezi recently lost his perfect record in one of the most bizarre and disturbing ways possible.

On Sunday, a video emerged online which showed the final moments of the WBF African lightweight title fight between Buthelezi and Siphesihle Mntungwa at the Greyville Convention Center in Durban, South Africa.

Buthelezi was on his way to a decisive victory before losing his bearings

In the 10th round of the fight, Buthelezi was in the ascendancy when he forced his opponent through the ropes in a rally, but when the referee restarted the action, everything changed.

A replay showed Buthelezi took a hard punch to his opponent’s chin before going down, with the boxer in control himself briefly collapsing on the ropes.

Buthelezi then seemed to lose his bearings – instead of walking towards his opponent, he instead directed his attention to the referee and didn’t seem to notice when the official moved out of the way.

This left him staring at an empty corner of the ring and throwing punches at what appeared to be an unseen opponent.

The referee immediately stopped the fight and the win was awarded to Mntungwa, who was almost certainly heading for a decision loss before the unfortunate incident happened.

After a moment of confusion, the referee realized something was seriously wrong and called off the fight, sparking wild celebrations from his opponent who was happy to win this way.

Mntungwa ran into the ring and mimicked Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Sui’ celebration as he extended his boxing record to 7-1-2.

However, the decision was made to suspend the belt ceremony by the WBF, which wanted to focus on Buthelezi’s health condition after suffering one of the most bizarre losses in sports history.

Boxing enthusiast Tim Boxeo, who posted a video of the incident on social media, later claimed Buthelezi was in stable condition and was receiving medical treatment in Durban.

“Sources share that Simiso Buthelezi is currently in a stable condition in South Africa and in the coming days we will hear more about what could have potentially caused a very scary and strange response in the ring.”
