Body of newborn baby found in duffel bag near Chicago fire station – NBC Chicago

The body of a newborn baby was found in a sports bag early Saturday in Chicago’s North End, police said.

According to the police, the remains of the male baby were found around 5 a.m. And a city fire department spokesman, Larry Merritt, told the Chicago Tribune that a crew of firefighters discovered the bag covered in snow as they were out to shovel snow.

The police department said its detectives and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the baby’s death.

No arrests have been made and no cause of death has been determined, according to the police department’s press affairs office.
