Body in car found in lake during search for California teenager Kiely Rodni missing for two weeks

(KTXL) – A body and a car were found in a lake where teams were looking for Kiely Rodni, 16, who had been missing for more than two weeks.

According to a Facebook post from Adventures with Purpose, an independent group of researchers, a car believed to belong to Rodni was found upside down 14 feet deep in Prosser Lake. A body believed to be Rodni was found inside.

Law enforcement has been notified, according to Oregon-based Adventure with Purpose, but has yet to confirm the identity of the body or whether the car is Rodni’s.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, one of the agencies working to find Rodni, confirmed it was aware of the Adventure with Purpose finds and that personnel were heading to Prosser Lake.

“We will provide additional information as it becomes available,” the sheriff’s office said Sunday.

Rodni was last seen shortly after midnight on August 6 near the Prosser family campground in Truckee, Calif., about 100 miles northeast of Sacramento. She was reportedly at a party where more than 100 minors and young adults.

On Aug. 7, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office told KTXL it considered Rodni’s disappearance a possible kidnapping since his car, a silver 2013 Honda CRV, was also missing. The last known ping from Rodni’s cellphone was near Lake Prosser, but previous searches had turned up no sign of Kiely or his vehicle.

More than 14 agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, FBI, Homeland Security, Truckee Police Department and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, have joined the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada County to help locate Rodni.

The agencies used aerial searches from helicopters as well as motorcycles, ATVs, K9s and even boats, which searched nearby bodies of water. More 100 volunteers joined the search to find her.

A $50,000 reward was offered for any information leading to Rodni’s whereabouts. Family, friends and local businesses also all donated to a GoFundMe account to boost the reward amount, which had reached $75,000 on Sunday.

Nexstar’s KTXL accompanied Adventures with Purpose on Saturday when they arrived at Donner Lake to begin searching for Rodni or his car. The group, which travels the country to help solve cases like Rodni’s, also searched the area’s ponds and the Boca Reservoir.

On Sunday, Adventures with Purpose began searching for Prosser Lake.
