Boaters help rescue man on makeshift raft who says he’s from Cuba

MIAMI – A man was rescued from ocean waters off Miami.

A US Coast Guard rescue team was told by a boater at around 1 p.m. on Saturday that there was a man on a makeshift raft in need of assistance.

This man reportedly told Rescues that he and three other people left Cuba 10 days ago.

He told them the other men died on the trip, authorities said.

Coastguards said the man was in poor condition. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities commended the boaters for their help and for immediately contacting the coast guard.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have also been notified.
