Blow for Chelsea as N’Golo Kante suffers hamstring injury in Tottenham draw

Helsea suffered a particularly sour note in their draw against Tottenham on Sunday as N’Golo Kante suffered an apparent muscle injury.

The French midfielder had put in a fine performance at Stamford Bridge before stretching for the ball in the 83rd minute.

It initially appeared as if Yves Bissouma had caught Kante as the pair challenged for a loose ball, but referee Anthony Taylor waved play.

The official proved correct as replays showed the Chelsea man grabbing the back of his right leg, in the hamstring area, with no contact from his Spurs counterpart.

Thomas Tuchel was forced to withdraw Kante immediately, for home debutant Conor Gallagher.

Kante missed several weeks in the backend of last season with a hamstring injury and Chelsea had already lost Mateo Kovacic to a recurring injury before the game.

With Kante out of the field, Chelsea lost two points in stoppage time with Harry Kane’s header turned against Reece James, who had given the Blues the lead earlier in the second half.
