Blake Lively knows how to keep things light and hilarious, even when she’s seriously emphasizing the support of women. And that sentiment was expressed in a recent Instagram post the actor made after attending the premiere of Renaissance: a Beyoncé film.
Lively posted a series of photos from the premiere in London on Saturday, including one smiling and laughing with Beyoncé, and another with her best friend Taylor Swift, who also attended the premiere. In the caption, Lively noted how women are often pitted against each other as competitors.
“When I grew up, women were always pitted against each other,” Lively wrote. “It took me until adulthood to understand that women’s instinct to elevate each other to their highest potential is the norm, not the exception.”
She continued: “Most of my best friends are women who would have been presented to me as a threat or competition. It is our duty to show younger generations the power of aligning rather than dividing.”
The post comes after some fans of Taylor Swift and Beyoncé compared the two artists and their wildly successful world tours, often belittling the other artist. The ongoing conversation clearly reached Blake Lively herself, whose caption proved she had none of it.
“All this to say that @beyonce and @taylorswift should not be threatened by my pop stardom. There’s room for all of us,” Lively joked.
Beyoncé’s concert film debuted in theaters this week, giving fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at the queen’s life and her Renaissance world tour. The film comes just two months after Taylor Swift released her concert film for The Eras Tour. Beyoncé made a rare red carpet appearance at Swift’s premiere, while Swift returned the favor in London. The appearance of the two powerhouse musicians is a testament to their camaraderie in the music industry and beyond.
