Black Revolutionary War soldier Oliver Cromwell to be honored in New Jersey

Since childhood, cousins Arianna Murray and Jane Fox Long knew the story of Oliver Cromwell.

His story was not taught in school textbooks. But in New Jersey and across the country, nine generations of his family have helped keep him alive.

“We knew our great-great-great-grandfather — I forget how many greats — had come through Delaware with Washington,” Fox Long said. “That was the story my mother told, and it was passed down to her as well.”
