Black-ish Primetime Driver Special Features Screen Tests

The Johnson family steps out in style.

In honor of the series finale of blackishthe show is celebrated with an ABC primetime special, noirâtre: a celebrationwhich will air directly after the series finale on April 19.

The special goes back to the beginning, with screen tests for the 2014 series’ pilot episode, as seen in this E! News clip.

Anthony Anderson and a baby face Marcus Scribner showing some of the father-son chemistry that would help blackish became one of the most acclaimed comedies on television in its eight-year run.

There are Miles Brown and Marsai Martinwho both grew up before our eyes, nailing their screen test together. Tracee Ellis Rosswho earned five Emmy nominations for the show, is also seen being among the early reps as the Bow matriarch.

The special will feature interviews with Anderson, Ross, Martin, Brown and Scribner, in addition to cast members Yara Shahidi, Laurence Fishburne, Jennifer Lewis and Deon Cole.

“When I read the script I knew it was something special,” Ellis Ross said in the special. “It was a point of view that I hadn’t seen on television in this way.”
