Before the microbiota was a fashionable research topic, the French laboratory Biocodex had made it its hobbyhorse since 1953. Today, the world pioneer in intestinal protection is celebrating 50 years of marketing its drug Ultra-Levure ® Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745®, but also the 10th anniversary of the flagship start-up of its pharmaceutical plant in Morocco.

In Morocco, the group is celebrating 10 years since the start-up of its Casablanca pharmaceutical plant. “Biocodex Morocco is our only subsidiary in Africa and the Middle East, it is also our only subsidiary that has a manufacturing site outside of France. We are happy and proud of this celebration with our Moroccan employees and firmly believe in the future and the potential of our Moroccan subsidiary”, underlines Nicolas Coudurier, Managing Director of the Group which achieved a turnover of 418 million euros. in 2021, of which 42% in France and 58% internationally. For its part, Biocodex Morocco, a subsidiary of the Biocodex group, is an industrial pharmaceutical establishment that manufactures and distributes medicines and health products. Its journey in the Kingdom began 50 years ago with the launch of Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745 on the market in 1972 under the Ultra-Levure brand.
The range of Biocodex Morocco products was then expanded through several product launches from the Biocodex Group, but also through partnerships with other foreign or Moroccan laboratories. Over the years, the Moroccan subsidiary has become a leader in several categories of pharmaceutical products: probiotics, seawater and tonics in particular. Biocodex Maroc has a manufacturing site, located in Nouaceur, specializing in the shaping of drinkable vials for the Moroccan market and for export. “This site has been certified by the Moroccan supervisory authorities (BPF) since 2013 and by the European authorities (GMP) since 2017,” specifies the Group. In 2021, Biocodex Maroc had 110 employees, achieved a turnover of 111 million DH, up 22% compared to 2020.
