Billy Gilmour set to start for Scotland at Euro 2020 and is compared to Phil Foden as Chelsea star “asks for club loan”

Billy Gilmour must start for Scotland at Euro 2020, says Charlie Adam.

The Chelsea midfielder is yet to make his full debut for his country with just two appearances on the bench so far.

Adam claims Gilmour, who has played just 225 minutes of Premier League football since January, is “one of the best technical players” Scotland has ever had.

The Dundee captain, who won 26 caps for Scotland, told talkSPORT: “He’s a top player, he’s brilliant. I said he should play.

“He’s one of the best technical players we’ve had in a long time.

“People say he doesn’t have any experience with his playing time, but we’ve been saying this about Phil Foden for two years.

“He trained with the best players for two years, so he was learning all the time. Billy is the same.

“In the 15-20 minute period he had the other night, he did more than the guys who played 60 minutes.

“He was able to advance, pass in front of people, see a pass and I think he’s a definitive starter [at Euro 2020]. “

Gilmour was hired as a halftime substitute against Luxembourg on Sunday but had to be pulled in the 76th minute following a dangerous clash with Olivier Thill.

However, the 19-year-old has recovered and looks set to make his full Scotland debut in their Euro 2020 debut game against the Czech Republic on Monday.

Gilmour has been linked with a Chelsea loan in an attempt to improve his playing time.

The Sun claim Gilmour plans to follow in the footsteps of Mason Mount, who spent a season-long loan with Derby in the Championship, before returning to Chelsea and becoming a regular with the first team.
