After coaching his team to a vital 14-10 victory over the Bills in Buffalo on Monday night, Bill Belichick underscored the level of respect he has for his AFC East rivals.

Patriots defense, racing game keep Bills in bowl in bad weather
“It was really good to come here and win. Make no mistake: Buffalo is a very good football team, ”Belichick told reporters at a post-game press conference. “They are well trained, have a lot of good players, they play hard and are tough.”
“It’s good to get the win, really proud of the players,” Belichick added. “These guys did a good job on all three units. We played a bit of how we thought we had to play to win. In the end, scored enough points. There was a lot of situational football. I thought we had, for the most part, managed [it] pretty good.”
The Patriots used a basic approach on offense, as rookie quarterback Mac Jones threw just three assists throughout the game. New England operated an efficient rushing game, running 46 times for 222 yards.
When asked if he’s ever been part of a game with so few passing attempts – at the pro, college or high school level – Belichick even managed to find some humor.
“Yeah, I don’t know,” Belichick said before smiling briefly. “We didn’t throw the ball a lot in high school.
A major factor in the game was the weather, with gusty winds making passing and kicking difficult.
Yet while the Patriots may have been effective – Nick Folk went 2-2 for New England – the Bills have not been able to keep up with the same pace. Buffalo kicker Tyler Bass missed a 33-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that would have reduced the Patriots’ lead to one point.
“It was definitely swirling, and kicking the closed end to the right of our bench was tough,” Belichick said.
With a game plan singularly focused on the running game, New England managed to pull it off thanks to collective blocking from multiple positions.
“Everyone really tried to do a good job; the offensive line, the tight ends, the receivers, they blocked for us all day, ”noted Belichick.
“Obviously the full backs have done well,” said Belichick. “Good job, offensively. Josh made some good adjustments in the racing game like he always does. It also helped us defensively. We felt confident and stuck with it.
When asked how he feels with the team now at 9-4 after a seven-game winning streak, Belichick remained focused on the team’s next game against the Colts on December 18.
“We had a big one against Indianapolis and it’s obviously a good football team, so we’re going to look to them,” Belichick said. “I don’t really care what happened in the past. We’re just gonna get ready for Indianapolis. They are tough and it will be a tough game for us.
The Patriots are now heading into the team’s week off as the AFC seed ahead of the Colts clash in Week 14.
