Biker films TikTok of clash with NSW Highway Patrol

A self-proclaimed ‘sovereign citizen’ has filmed his bizarre roadside clash with a highway patrolman who, strangely, believes he has ‘no authority’ over him.

The man appears to have been stopped on the side of an NSW road by Highway Patrol after he was allegedly clocked at 106mph in a 60mph zone.

In a lengthy confrontation later uploaded to TikTok, he filmed as he tormented an officer with false statements about what he believed to be his “common law” rights.

The man appears to belong to a group of people who call themselves sovereign citizens and claim to be responsible only for their particular interpretations of the “common law” and are not subject to any law or government procedure unless they consent to it.

The biker stopped by Highway Patrol made a series of bizarre comments to the officer, including, “remember, your choice creates your destiny.”

“It’s okay. I’ve made my choice and you’ve made yours. Let’s go,” the officer replied.

Although he was on public land, the motorcyclist told the officer, “I’m not going in.”

“I did not allege that. This is a public road. How could you be? replied the officer.

For no apparent reason, the man then went on a bizarre rant about what he believed to be the definition under common law.

“The common law is the common law. It’s the law of the land. Admiralty Maritime Law is the law you apply. It requires consent,” he said.

The clearly puzzled officer wonders why the conversation drifted to maritime law, telling the man, “I’m not the big guy from the water police.”

“They don’t even tell you, they lied to you too,” replied the biker before asking the officer, “see where this is leading?”

The officer said to him, “Come down the hill for yourself. That’s all I see”.

While claiming he was ‘not trying to fight’ with the officer, it appeared he refused to surrender his license after being charged with speeding.

The officer told him: “produce a license [and then you’ll be] free to go”.

As the biker continued his efforts to convince the officer that he was not required to comply with the law, the officer pulled out his phone and began typing.

“You should be careful. This is real life, this is not a dream,” said the biker.

The officer then asked the motorcyclist to move away from the road so as not to risk being run over by a passing car.

“Constable, I am not under your authority, did I make it clear?”

The video was cut before the result of the exchange was revealed.
