Jenny was cornered by Dhruv, Ren and Jag’s bodyguard during last week’s episode (big sky Season 2 Episode 14) after snooping around their drug lab. It looked grim to her as Dhruv was four times her size, but this week she fights back and escapes after throwing powdered fentanyl in his face (while shielding her face with a gas mask). Dhruv inhales the drugs and collapses.
Before entering the lab, Jenny was on the scene to tell Ren that a teenage boy, Mason, died after taking his medication, and Ren was quite shaken to learn that someone might be tampering with his supply. Jag introduces herself and she explains what is happening, when the two, along with Travis, realize that they haven’t seen Dhruv in a while so they go to the lab where they find his corpse covered in drug powder. Ren and Jag are distraught, but she grabs a gun and they all run to find whoever did this. Jenny, still on the property, knows she’s screwed. As she runs around the house, Travis finds her and warns her to leave. She begs him to come with her and escape the Bhullars but he cocks his gun and points it at her, forcing her to leave before she is caught by someone pulling the trigger.
Realizing she did something really wrong (and the Bhullars will figure it was her), she calls Cassie (yay, Cassie’s back!) who rushes over to Jenny. Jenny has bruises all over her neck from her struggle with Dhruv, and she explains the situation to Cassie, who tells her she needs to report everything to Sheriff Tubb. Jenny doesn’t want to, because it might involve Travis, since he’s so deeply involved with the Bhullars. Jenny however goes to Tubb and begs him to issue a warrant so she can return to Ren’s lab and try to bring down the Bhullars.
Hayden Ford (she’s Mason, the Dead Child’s sister, in case you forgot the names of our new characters), shows up at Dewell and Hoyt’s wondering if Denise or anyone else has seen her father, Richard. Last week Denise mentioned briefly (so briefly I didn’t even hear it until they put it in the “Last Week On Big sky...” clip at the start of this episode) that she was worried about Richard and how he would handle his son’s death, as Denise and Richard were both recovering together. So now it makes so much more sense why it would be triggered by Jenny asking if her son was drinking or doing drugs, since Richard himself struggles with drug addiction. This week, Richard (and his gun) went missing, hence Hayden’s visit to the PI offices.
Jerri and Lindor begin a search for Richard and start in a storage locker he rents. They discover a friend of Mason’s, tied to a chair, who tells them that Richard is looking for the one who sold Mason the drugs he overdosed. The friend tells Jerri and Lindor to start looking at the Boot Heel, Dietrich’s bar that serves as his home base for other illegal activities like, you know, drug dealing. When they get to the bar, a very inhospitable Dietrich tells them that yes, Richard has been there, but all he did was break the joint and beat people up, but they won’t find the droids, I mean drugs , they are looking there.
When Cassie shows up at the office, Jerri, Lindor and Denise tell her about their new case, looking for Richard Ford. Cassie mentions that if she were him, she would want to be somewhere where she could feel her son’s presence. Lindor realizes it’s by the river where Mason died, so he and Denise (in what might be Denise’s first real scene outside of the office) go together, since Denise was his godmother. When they find Richard, he admits his erratic behavior and says he plans to return home to his family and work things out, but Denise and Lindor know that, despite his words, something is wrong with his behavior.
Verr Bhullar feels a lot of emotions when he learns that Dhruv is dead. He’s filled with grief, like his kids, but he’s furious at Jag for never putting security cameras in the drug lab so they can see who killed him, and he tells Jag that he should never have entrusted the family business to him. He cruelly tells Jag that Dhruv’s blood is on Jag’s hands, then says Travis will be their top security guard from now on. As Travis receives his new job title, Jenny and her team burst in (Jenny literally strolls) with a search warrant. “I told you I’d see you soon,” she told Ren, handing him the warrant and ordering her guys to sweep the house. When Jenny searches the basement, the entire drug lab has been removed and it is empty. Ren appears to say hello and notices Jenny’s bruised, bruised face (“You should see the other guy,” Jenny says) and Ren realizes Jenny is Dhruv’s killer.
Verr can’t believe that his top security guard is dead and his house is being raided by the police, and he begins to voice his concerns to Alicia. She tells him not to worry, that the family business will be fine in Montana, but she also tells him about a premonition she had, that Jag will kill Veer. (Exactly what all parents want to hear, right?) Verr looks at his son through the window like, THIS is the guy gonna get me?
Ren starts asking his team if they know anything about Jenny, since she is so focused on destroying the Bhullar. Travis is like “Who is it now?” Verr comes in and tells Travis that Jenny is a problem and he needs to take her out. Oh, and Donno is going to help her.
And while we try to iron out the issues, Ren and Jag will meet with their in-house chemist, Ronit, to ask about who/how/why their drug supply is tainted. Ronit told Ren that he was cutting the meds with other more powerful things under the orders of… dun dun dunnn! Lock. The look of shock on Jag’s face is the look of a man realizing that, yeah, maybe he Is wants to kill his father.
Jenny learns that one of the trucks used to distribute the Bhullars’ drugs has been stopped. She rides it up to the truck where one of Bhullar’s drivers Tanya hired, Brice, tells them the only thing inside is beef. Jenny literally rips open the nearest box she can find and immediately finds a bunch of medicine. Fortunate! When they interrogate Brice to see what he knows, Jenny turns him into a mole inside Bhullar’s operation.
And now for the eventful last two minutes of the episode. I could really use the guy from Micro Machines to help me recap this incredibly dense edit:
Richard Ford never returned home, although he promised Denise and Lindor that he would. When Denise learns from Hayden that her father is still missing, Richard is seen driving the Bhullar construction site with his gun. This doesn’t bode well… for anyone.
After a long day, Jerri invites Lindor over to her house, but Lindor is hesitant, explaining that he has feelings for her and Cassie, and now that Cassie is back, he is conflicted. Jerri looks quite devastated and tells her he has a choice to make, and she goes home. Lindor then walks over to Cassie’s house where he asks if he can come in, then he gently stumbles over his words asking if she still loves him. She kisses him and invites him in.
Jenny and Tubb walk out of the sheriff’s office, with Tubb telling her to be careful of her plan to make Brice her informant. “Am I not always? she jokes, not realizing that Travis and Donno are sitting in a car just outside the station. Donno brandishes a gun as their eyes follow her.
Jenny, sleep with one eye open, because someone’s coming to get you.
