Big Freedia Details Meeting Beyoncé For ‘Break My Soul’

Big Freedia had a fangirl moment meeting “very humble” and “sweet” Beyoncé.
The rebound queen, 44, who previously sampled on Beyoncé’s 2016 song “Formation,” met Queen Bey when they last collaborated on new hit song “Break My Soul.”
Freedia exclusively tells Page Six that she was “grateful”, “humbled” and “excited” when the Grammy winner’s team reached out to her about using her vocals for her 2014 song “Explode,” but that she was “blown away” when she heard the final product two weeks ago at Bey’s recording studio in Los Angeles.
“I mean, the speakers were like jumping on me. The bass was coming out of the speakers so heavy. I was in there like shaking and like excited and overwhelmed,” she recalls.
The New Orleans native says she was “about to leave the studio” when one of Beyoncé’s liaisons approached her and said, “Do you want to talk to the Queen? She’s here.

“I was like, ‘Holy shit. You know I want to talk to him!’ Freedia tells us, explaining that she “went over to her” and the two “hugged” and “had a conversation.”
“She thanked me for being on her trail. And I’m like, ‘No, thanks you for inviting me to the track!” she shares, adding that the 40-year-old former Destiny’s Child singer is “very humble”, “so nice” and “laid back”.
“She just transforms [her stage persona] ‘Sasha Fierce’ when she takes the stage.

But the surprises didn’t stop there. Freedia says she had no idea “Break My Soul” would be released on June 20 as the lead single from Beyoncé’s seventh solo studio album, “Renaissance.”
“I didn’t know it was coming out. I didn’t know I was the first single. I found out about it the same day,” she explains, claiming to have learned the news when Beyoncé “announced the name of the song” on his social media platforms hours before its release.
Although the track – a catchy dance anthem – is drastically different from what the BeyHive is used to, Freedia thinks they’ve created “the hottest song of the summer.”

“I mean, it’s something we all need. It’s the anthem of the summer. It’s something that will bring us all together on the dance floor,” she says. “It’s powerful. It is inspiration. It’s the motivation. It’s going to get people dancing…in the clubs. It’s gonna get people dancing in the practice rooms. In the gym. I mean everywhere.
Beyoncé feels the same way about “Renaissance” as a whole, writing in part to her Instagram followers on Thursday, “I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to let go. Ha!And to feel as unique, strong and sexy as you are.

Along with pursuing her musical dreams, Freedia has also prioritized her academic dreams.
She decided to go back to school with seven other stars – including NeNe Leakes, Ray J, Lamar Odom, Stacey Dash, Slim Thug, India Love and Dreamdoll – for the BET+ original series, “College Hill: Celebrity Edition”.
Freedia tells us she shared a room with the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” for an enriching experience; however, her appearance in Season 12 – the first without leaks – was not brought up in conversation.
