President Joe Biden intends to appoint Carlos Del Toro, CEO of a technology solutions company and Cuban-born Navy veteran, as Secretary of the Navy. The White House plans to make the announcement on Friday, according to two people with direct knowledge.
Del Toro completed the verification process last week, according to one of the sources. If confirmed by the Senate, Del Toro would be the second Latino person to hold the post of Secretary of the Navy.
The White House has been considering Del Toro, chairman and CEO of entrepreneur SBG Technology Solutions and chairman of the White House Fellows Foundation, for the job since at least April, POLITICO first reported.
