Biden meets Saudi leader accused of approving murder of journalist

Nick Schifrin:

Yeah, so I don’t think US officials would use the word pressure. They would use the word energy security discussion.

But, of course, part of that, William, let’s be honest, hopes that Saudi Arabia opens the taps, so gas prices in the United States can come down.

President Biden said tonight that he believes Saudi officials are on the same page as him. But, again, Adel Al-Jubeir, I asked him specifically whether Saudi Arabia intended to increase production in the coming weeks. And he wouldn’t say that Saudi Arabia was planning to do so. He said Saudi Arabia and OPEC had already increased production in recent months.

And independent analysts William note that between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, even if there was some increase, it wouldn’t necessarily lead to price easing within the United States. So, again, President Biden is pretty confident about what Saudi officials are saying. The Saudi officials I talk to aren’t so sure.
