Biden flips over getting off bike after beach ride

REHOBOTH BEACH, Delaware — President Joe Biden fell when he tried to get off his bike at the end of a ride on Saturday at Cape Henlopen State Park near his beach house in Delaware, but was not injured in the fall.

“I’m fine,” he told reporters after US Secret Service agents quickly helped him up. “I got my foot tripped” in the toe cages.

Biden, 79, and first lady Jill Biden were finishing a morning ride when the president decided to pedal towards a crowd of well-wishers standing near the bike path. Biden, who was wearing a helmet, took the knockdown when he attempted to dismount, apparently falling to his right side and rolling onto his back before being helped.

The president quickly collected himself and spent several minutes chatting with people who had gathered to watch him ride his bike. Biden did not require medical attention and is doing “well,” according to a statement from the White House.

The Bidens are spending a long weekend at their Rehoboth Beach home. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on Friday.
