Biden administration purchases 500 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for global use

the Biden administration purchases 500 million doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine donate to the global supply, according to a source close to the purchase; this will provide enough vaccine to fully immunize 250 million people.

The United States is giving 200 million doses this year and 300 million doses in the first half of 2022, the source said. All doses will be distributed through COVAX – the global entity that strives to ensure equitable access to COVID tests and vaccines – and will be distributed to 92 low- and middle-income countries and the African Union.

President Biden is expected to announce the purchase in his remarks ahead of the Group of Seven summit in Britain on Thursday.

The purchase of 500 million doses of the vaccine would be the largest US contribution to date to end the pandemic worldwide. The White House already had committed to sending 80 million doses to other nations.

Other countries have urged the United States to give them more vaccines because America has the largest vaccine supply of any country, as well as some of the most effective vaccines.
