Bezos, in his own rocket, lands safely after explosion in space

Amazon Founder and Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos, the richest person in the world, exploded in space on Tuesday aboard the New Shepard rocket and landed safely in West Texas 10 minutes later .

Bezos, the 57-year-old Washington Post owner and former Amazon CEO, was joined by three other crewmembers in blue on the flight: his younger brother Mark Bezos, 53; American aviation pioneer Wally Funk, 82; and the new Dutch student Oliver Daemen, 18.

The New Shepard traveled at an altitude of approximately 66 miles above Earth. Shortly after the capsule that carried the crew landed in the desert landscape of Van Horn, Texas, a smiling Bezos appeared in a cowboy hat and began to spray an open champagne bottle with a small crowd of family and friends.
