Bethesda update Fallout 4 for your “next-generation PC”

Probably to capitalize on the hype generated by BezosTech’s Fallout TV show (in many ways, quite entertaining), Bethesda is improving Fallout 4 with a new update, including support for wide and ultra-wide screens, fixes for the Creation Kit and a “variety of quest updates.”

The update is scheduled for this month, April 25. A new quest, “Echoes from the Past”, sees you take on the Clave. Alongside this, new workshop items including previously released Creation Club content such as Enclave uniforms, weapon and armor skins, new power armor, Tesla cannon and incinerator heavy. Here are some additional additions, via the update:

Makeshift Weapon Pack

Have you ever thought that a piggy bank would make a great weapon in a pinch? This weapon pack includes a variety of unconventional items transformed into deadly weapons, such as: a baseball pitcher, a nail gun and a piggy bank.

Halloween workshop

Leftovers from an ill-fated Halloween party thrown by the New England Technocrat Society, these 38 new Halloween decorations include witches, cauldrons, ghouls and more! Decorate for Halloween or make your colonies spooky all year round!

Although Bethesda bills it as “for your next-gen PC” (the one Todd recommended you upgrade to, nice man that he is), it is not, or at least does not appear to be, the “next-gen update” promised. ” for the RPG that Bethesda announced last year would be delayed until this year. It doesn’t appear to feature the expected 4K resolutions, but it’s possible that Beth has scaled back its ambitions here. The main motivation for these updates is usually to move units to next-gen consoles, and this update features “native apps for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Performance Mode and Quality Mode settings.”

If you’re looking for some truly exciting Fallout news, it’s best to look outside of Bethesda, whose main attention seems to be naturally directed towards the Starfield update. The massive Project London mod got a January release date (the 23rd of that month!), and the Fallout 2 game Project Arroyo recently showed off a comparison trailer. Hopefully Beth herself can channel some of those Jeffbucks towards what people (me) actually want, which is Dishonored 3.
