Besieged Representative Matt Gaetz refuses to resign in provocative editorial: I am ‘not a criminal’

Besieged Representative Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) Defended himself against allegations of sex trafficking and having sex with a 17-year-old girl with a provocative editorial in which he said he was “not resigning absolutely not ”from Congress.

“Let me first remind everyone that I am a representative in Congress, not a monk, and certainly not a criminal”, began Monday Gaetz, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, his editorial published by The Washington Examiner.

“Since I take my turn under the gun, allow me to respond directly to the allegations against me. Number one, I never, ever paid for sex. And second, I, as a grown man, didn’t sleep with a 17 year old, ”Gaetz wrote.

The Florida Republican called the allegations against him, for which he would be investigated, a political attack on “a member of Congress who hates the swamp and fights both sides daily.”

“My lifestyle of yesteryear may be different from the way I live now, but that was not and is not illegal,” Gaetz said, adding that it “is not surprising that my opponents politicians want to sensationalize and criminalize my previous sex life just as I engage with the best person I’ve ever known. “

“My personal life is and always has been led at my own pace and at my expense. Consensual adult relationships are not illegal, ”he added.

Last week, The New York Times reported that Gaetz was under federal investigation for alleged sex trafficking violations. Gaetz has denied the allegations.
