(WXYZ) – Belle Isle Park announced on Friday that they are temporarily closing the giant slide due to speed issues.
Chopper’s video on Friday showed some wild rides on the slide. Friday was the first day of its reopening to the public.
Kenyatta Mcadney is loving summer on Belle Isle, but he says the fun turned to fear around midday for his children as speed became an issue on a massive slide. Videos were captured and posted on social media.
“What I noticed was the impact they were hitting the ground with as they came out of the hills,” he said.

His children are now warning others. The two youngest refused to come down and the two oldest decided that once was enough.
“I was going down a lot faster than I thought. Gravity hurts,” said Mcadney kid Keymarr.
Belle Isle says they are making adjustments to improve speed.
“Hopefully after our little tweak we will be back up and running and the slide will be slower for more fun,” a statement read.
The Department of Natural Resources, which operates the slide, says there were no injuries and staff were up and down the slide giving instructions.
“If they had kept going down that slide, someone would have been hurt,” Mcadney said.
Mcadney says he also waived the tickets he paid for out of concern.
Friday night, it was unclear when the ride would reopen.
