Bears fans react to Kyler Gordon pick originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Chicago Bears didn’t make their first pick of the 2022 NFL Draft until Day 2.
And they used it to bolster their defense and picked Kyler Gordon, a cornerback from Washington.
Fans on Twitter seemed to like the choice, which filled a big need (among many others).
Fans aren’t always crazy about their teams’ picks, but Bears fans seem thrilled with new general manager Ryan Poles’ first pick of his tenure at the helm.
The Bears are expected to pick next at No. 48 and then again at No. 71, but there’s a chance the Poles will choose to trade from one of those spots to add more draft capital.
The Bears have needs all over the field, but the cornerback was a big deal. Other areas to address are the wide receiver and the offensive line.
But Gordon will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on a defense that has lost star players like Kyle Fuller, Khalil Mack and Danny Trevathan in recent seasons.
Gordon has experience playing on the outside and in the slot, so he provides versatility to the team as Matt Eberflus works to rebuild the defense. Gordon also has experience in zone defenses like Eberflus and does a good job of keeping the game ahead of him in these situations.
One of Gordon’s strengths is sure tackling, with a knack for stopping ball carriers before they reach the line to win. He was named All Pac-12 First Team in 2021.
