Bear destroys an acre of corn in East Lyme | Connecticut News

LYME-EST, Ct. (WFSB) – Farmers are used to pest control, but not those that can reach 660 pounds.

Collin Scott suspects that a black bear has destroyed nearly an acre of his corn, and the culprit has been spotted on his neighbor’s Ring camera.

Her neighbor, Dolores Scott, said: “I know it’s pretty scary, I’m not allowed to walk on the property anymore, I’m afraid it will come out.

Collin Scott and his wife, Karen, have fought deer in the past, but they have never faced bears.

“First time for a bear. Yeah. We have had issues with deer over the years, fighting what we have fenced in almost every field with an eight foot fence, ”said Karen Scott.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will not remove the bear and has advised Collin Scott to fencing his field.
