IPL 2022: BCCI learns from Hardik Patel’s FITNESS fiasco and urges Indian cricketers to ‘follow Indian team’s fitness plan during IPL 2022’

BCCI to follow FITNESS players: According to a report by The Indian Express, BCCI has issued a strict mandate to all its contracted cricketers to follow FITNESS PLAN during IPL 2022.

After the ongoing India vs Sri Lanka series, Indian cricketers will play for their respective franchises in IPL.

They will enter an organic bubble for 2 months. BCCI and Indian team coach Rahul Dravid, unlike previous IPL seasons, do not want to lose track of Indian cricketers.

With the T20 World Cup in Australia just months away, the Indian Express report claims that BCCI has developed a centralized fitness tracker for all contracted cricketers.

What will the CENTRALIZED FITNESS PLAN do?

  • With the T20 World Cups on the horizon, the team management will keep the players in check ahead of a busy 18 months for the Indian cricket team.
  • The players have been strictly advised to follow the FORM PLAN laid down by the coaches of the Indian team.
  • Players will regularly enter all their DETAILS and make themselves available for interaction with NCA and Indian team coaches during the IPL.
  • With a host of Indian stars struggling with injuries, the NCA will be monitoring their fitness.
  • This process will ensure that the council does not lose sight of the fitness status of Indian cricketers. At the same time, BCCI wants to make sure players don’t compromise with their training schedule, even during the IPL.
  • The BCCI has informed the IPL teams of the direct role the NCA will play in managing player fitness.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said the aim of the NCA’s fitness plan was to clarify the fitness status of players and ensure the maximum number of players are fit and available for selection for international matches.

“For us fitness is paramount and we want our players to be in peak condition before any bilateral series or international match. We have a fitness camp at the NCA and in the future similar camps will take place. The goal is for everyone to be on the same page when it comes to following the fitness plan set out by BCCI,” shah said The Indian Express.

Why did he need such a centralized fitness monitoring system?

IPL 2022 – BCCI to track player fitness: Previously, once players joined their IPL teams, they followed the regime of their respective franchises.

The NCA fitness plan was introduced after the BCCI and selectors were kept in the dark about the fitness status of top cricketers during the IPL.

The Hardik Patel Fitness fiasco: Last season, Hardik Pandya’s fitness was a complete mystery. His IPL Mumbai Indians franchise kept telling the board that Hardik had started bowling and regained fitness ahead of the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

But when Hardik arrived in the T20 World Cup, he was not fit to bowl at all. The fiasco resulted in India’s embarrassing exit from the World Cup at LEAGUE STAGE.

The Rohit Sharma Fitness fiasco: Not only Hardik, but Rohit Sharma’s injury has also remained a mystery to the Indian board.

Rohit Sharma rested for T20 internationals and ODIs in Australia due to a hamstring injury but played in the IPL final a day after the Indian squad was selected.

This season, NCA physios and coaches and head coach Rahul Dravid will be in contact with the country’s top cricketers to ensure they stick to the plan, with a focus on strength and the conditioning.

VVS Laxman, who is the head of the NCA, will play an active role in the scientific monitoring of cricketers who are part of the core group that should feature in one or both of the next World Cups.

However, players have been advised that the current fitness plan for the IPL is not set in stone and they have the option of returning to the NCA if it is too taxing.

However, Dravid emphasized the quality of NCA and the skill of the players rather than the coaches leading the teams.

“Coach Dravid said you are playing 10 months for India and only two months for IPL. He told us to trust the support staff and NCA when it comes to fitness. A few players expressed their concern about the reaction of the IPL team physios and coaches. But we have been told to leave these matters to the BCCI.Players can also inform the NCA or Indian team management if the plan to NCA training is too difficult to follow during the IPL”, said a cricketer.
