SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) — The World Cup is coming to the bay.

The Bay Area has been selected as one of 16 host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Levi’s Stadium will be the venue used for the games.

The biggest international soccer competition will take place in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Bay Area leaders have been pushing to be hosts since FIFA awarded the World Cup to North American countries in 2018.

The Bay Area Organizing Committee is hosting a watch party at Levi’s Stadium for the big announcement.
