CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina –Alberto Osuna’s two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the difference as 18th-ranked North Carolina outscored UNCW, 6-4, Tuesday at Boshamer Stadium.
The Tar Heels (19-6) snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 17-0 at home. The Seahawks, meanwhile, have slipped to 13-11 this season.
Danny Serretti had three hits on the night for the Tar Heels and drove in three runs, all on his third homer of the season in the first inning. Hunter Stokely added three hits.
Matt Suggs scored his fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot that tied the game in the fourth inning for the Seahawks.
UNCW Sophomore Reliever Noah Overton (0-1) suffered the loss despite a career 4.1 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out two.
How did it happen: In the UNC seventh, Overton retired the first batter, but hit the next batter. After a pop-up at shortstop for the second out of the inning, Osuna homered 1-1 to make it 6-4.
Remarks: Matt Suggs homered in three straight games and led in 12 runs in his last five … The Seahawks were limited to four hits … Suggs and Dillon Lifrieri extended their hitting streaks to five and four games, respectively.
