The general director of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Manuel Bartlett Diaz, participated this Wednesday afternoon in the Second Assembly of Legislators of the Fourth Transformation. There, the controversial official assured that “no more private investment is required” in the electricity sectorbecause the infrastructure is already developed by the government.

It is worth mentioning that hours before a video went viral on social networks showing the collapse of a cooling tower at the Mérida II thermoelectric plant in Yucatán, which caused a huge water leak. This, according to plant workers, due to the lack of maintenancewhich had already been urgently requested.

However, Bartlett accused what there are 110 companies that “steal” electricity“like the Oxxos”, well “it’s a lie” that they are self-generating electricity, and yes, large monopolies in Mexico consume electricity without paying.

He pointed out that they have 45% of the sector with an illegal system and at least 80,000 clients, which he considered to be an oligarchic system.

Before deputies and senators from Morena, PT, the Green Party and New Alliance, he said that the electrical reform approved in the administration of the PRI president Enrique Pena Nieto (2012-2018) “was a cynical surrender to foreign interests for the disappearance of the fundamental structure of the CFE”.

He even indicated that companies such as the Spanish Iberdrola they have had privileges from the previous system and that is why, he said, that the previous electrical reform should be analyzed.

The former PRI also assured that the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador is in favor of clean energybut that are developed by the State.

“The transition is a policy that can only be carried out by the state, it needs technological development, investment”

He recalled that since he was appointed head of the CFE, he has been instructed by AMLO rescue this companysince he accused that in the past administration this parastatal was dismantled.

Furthermore, he stated that there is an “economic war” of the Fourth Transformation against the interests created to rescue the CFE and that the opponents of AMLO have even a “war room” to prevent the transformation of Mexico.

In this regard, he charged that the media is paid to attack the electricity reform and say that what is wanted is dirty energies, but “all these are lies”

“We have more clean energy than the private ones”

It is worth mentioning that the reform by AMLO last September also causes controversy because it would eliminate autonomous energy regulators, review previous contracts and prioritize the dispatch of CFE fossil plants over private renewables.
