Bangladesh investigates fire that killed at least 41

Authorities are investigating safety measures taken to handle hazardous materials at a container depot in southeastern Bangladesh, where a fire triggered a series of explosions, killing at least 41 people and injuring nearly 200, according to government officials and volunteers.

The first fire broke out on Saturday evening in a container containing hydrogen peroxide in the town of Sitakunda, about 25 miles northwest of the port city of Chittagong, authorities said. This triggered the first explosion around 9:30 p.m., and several explosions followed in the hours that followed. The fire spread to nearby containers, some of which contained clothing.
