Balmain and Beyoncé launch a couture collection inspired by the “Renaissance”

The French luxury brand’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, released a lookbook of stunning designs made in collaboration with Beyoncé on Friday. The theme of the collection: Each look translates a song from the 2022 album – like ‘Break My Soul’, ‘Cozy’ and ‘Summer Renaissance’ – into fashion. Routing conceived the project when he became singularly obsessed with “Renaissance” after its release last summer, he said in a statement.

“Day after day, I continued to imagine and sketch new concepts inspired by Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE, the album that constantly echoed through my home, office, studio and vacation rental – and on an endless loop. in my head – since it came out in July 2022,” he said. “There was no plan or project or expectation. I had absolutely no reason to spend so much time on these drawings, other than just the sheer pleasure I had in creating something completely new, as I channeled his glorious, joy-filled artistry into the mine.”

“From the start, we knew this collaboration was going to be unlike any other that either of us had worked on before…it’s a collection entirely based on our shared passion for fusing the music and fashion,” says Rousteing. “The absence of budgeting, deployment and marketing plans eliminated typical limits and constraints, creating a dream environment that simply allowed us to experiment, dream and push each other to the limit. is exactly what we did.”
