Balatro Is Getting Its First Major Update

One of the most popular releases of the year so far is the roguelike deck-building game Balatro. Although it had some teething problems on Switch (with a temporary removal from the eShop), it has since returned and sold over a million copies across all platforms.

It now appears that the surprise hit will receive its first major update. This has only been confirmed for PC at the moment, but a console version is expected to follow. This new update (upgrading the game to version 1.0.1) will bring new features, changes, improvements and fixes.

Balatro – Version 1.0.1 Patch Notes:

  • Added an option for “Reduced Movement”, removing swirling background and gyrating movement from the map.
  • Changed the default backup tarot from Fool to Strength (when all tarots are on screen)
  • Changed Gold Stake random seeds – now guarantees that the first Legendary Joker on that seed is a Joker you haven’t won with on Gold Stake (for Completionist++ hunting)
  • Changed ante scaling in white bet:
    • Antenna 3: 2800 -> 2000
    • Antenna 4: 6000 -> 5000
  • Changed green bet scaling:
    • Antenna 2: 1000 -> 900
    • Antenna 3: 3,200 -> 2,400
    • Antenna 4: 9000 -> 7000
  • Changed bet scaling in purple bet:
    • Antenna 2: 1200 -> 1000
    • Antenna 3: 3600 -> 3000
    • Antenna 4: 10,000 -> 8,000
    • Antenna 5: 25,000 -> 22,000
  • Modified Orange Stake
    • Increasing cost of discarded pack
    • Added a new “Perishable” mechanic, Jokers have a 30% chance of having a “Perishable” sticker, deactivating them after 5 rounds.
  • Changed gold setting
    • Scrapped -1 hand size
    • Added a new “Location” mechanic, Jokers have a 30% chance of having a “Location” sticker (stacks with eternal/perishable), costing them $1 upfront and $3 each spin .
  • Changed Eternal to apply to Jokers in Buffoon packs
  • Changed the first shop in each match to always include a normal Buffoon Pack as one of the pack options.
  • Upcoming blinds/tags can now be seen in the store immediately after defeating a boss blind/cash.
  • Some Blinds are now banned in Challenge Races – Crimson Heart, Verdant Leaf and Amber Acorn banned on ‘Jokerless’ – Banned Verdant Leaf on ‘Typecast’ – Banned Verdant Leaf on ‘Non-Perishable’ – Banned The Plant on ‘Mad World’ ‘
  • Polished Saturn
    • Now gives +3 mult instead of +2 mult for suites.
  • Polished Neptune
    • Now gives +4 mult instead of +3 mult for Straight Flush.
  • Polished Eris
    • Now gives +50 tokens instead of +40 tokens for Flush Five
  • Polished Ceres
    • Now gives +4 mult instead of +3 mult for Flush House
  • Uncommon tag changed – Now makes uncommon wild free
  • Changed the Rare label: now makes the rare wild card free.
  • Negative, full color, holographic and aluminum tags all release their respective wild cards.
  • Changing the investment to give $25 instead of $15
  • Modified 8 ball – old effect removed, new effect -> 1 in 4 chance of generating a tarot when an 8 played is scored
  • Changed Blue Seal: Now creates the planet card from the last poker hand played during the round.
  • Changed both Mad and Clever Joker: removed the “contains four of a kind” effect, now applies to any hand containing a “two pair”.
  • Modified Yorick – old effect removed, new effect -> gains X1 multi every 23 cards discarded (starts at X1)
  • Modification of the Magician’s Tarot – now applies luck to 2 cards instead of 1
  • Midas Mask Change: Now only applies the Gold buff to landmark face cards, costs $7 instead of $6.
  • Altered Vampire
    • now only removes scorecard improvement
    • gives X0.1 mult per improvement instead of X0.2 mult
    • Rare instead of uncommon
  • Changed Madness – now only applies to small/big blinds, not boss blind selection.
  • To-do list changed: poker hand no longer changes when paying, always changes at end of round (will not get stuck on Straight Flush)
  • Edited shortcut description to include a more appropriate example (10 8 6 5 3)
  • Changed the Old Joker – the selected combination can no longer repeat between rounds
  • Modified Swashbuckler – Now adds the sell value of all other Jokers to Mult, not just Jokers on the left.
  • Changed Hanging Chad – Now retriggers the first card played 2 times instead of once.
  • Changed Flower Pot – Now includes the base suit of weakened cards to determine if it will trigger.
  • Changed bootstraps to include current multi bonus in description
  • Changed the 4 Sinful Jokers (one for each color) – they now each give +3 mult per color instead of +4 mult
  • Banner changed – now gives +30 tokens per remaining discard pile instead of +40 tokens
  • Modified Fibonacci – costs $8 instead of $7, because Fibonacci
  • Modified Steel Joker – Now gives X0.2 mult per Steel card in full game instead of X0.25 mult
  • Odd Todd Change – Now gives +31 tokens per odd ranked card instead of +30 tokens
  • Altered Sixth Sense – Now Rare and At $6 It Was Rare
  • Modified Hiker: Now gives +5 tokens for each score card played instead of +4 tokens.
  • Gros Michel modified – Now has a 1 in 6 chance of disappearing instead of 1 in 4
  • Modified session – Now rare and $6, was rare and $7
  • Modified Riff-Raff – Now $6 was $4
  • Modified Wanderer
    • Rare, was rare
    • $8 was $6
    • Applies when you have $4 or less, was $3 or less
  • Cloud 9 Change – Now $7 Was $6
  • Change in mail-in rebate: $5 was now $3
  • Modified reserved parking – Now common, it was rare
  • Changed Lucky Cat: Now earns X0.25 per lucky trigger, instead of X0.2.
  • Changed Trading Card: Now costs $6, down from $5.
  • Campfire modified: now earns X0.25 per card sold, instead of X0.5
  • Changed Smily Face – Now gives +5 mult per face card, instead of +4 mult
  • Changed Gold Ticket: Now awards $4 per gold card played, instead of $3.
  • Modified Bloodstone: Now has a 1 in 2 chance of triggering, instead of 1 in 3.
  • Changed Agate Onyx – Now gives +7 mult per club card, instead of +8 mult
  • Changed Glass Joker – Now gives X0.75 mult per glass card destroyed, instead of X0.5 mult
  • Modified Stuntman – Now gives +250 tokens, instead of +300
  • Modified Invisible Joker – now requires 2 spins and costs $8, down from 3 spins and $10.
  • Burnt Joker Change – Now it’s rare, it used to be rare
  • Changed the wording of most scaling wildcards to refer to “this wildcard”
  • Fixed a bug that prevented you from opening a booster with a size 0 hand.
  • Fixed a bug where the card generated by “Certificate” was not weakened by the boss.
