Women’s doubles – Ashwini Ponnappa/NS Reddy lost to Matsuyama N./Shida C. 2-0.

On day one, PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikkanth and Lakshya Sen made winning debuts in their German Open campaign.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy lost to the fifth-seeded Japanese pair of Chiharu Shida and Nami Matsuyama in the first round.

Parupalli Kashyap [IND] against Kunlavut Vitidsarn [THA]

Parupalli Kashyap lost to Thai opposition Kunlavut Vitidsarn 2-0. The match ended 13-21, 13-21 in favor of Vitidsarn.
