Not so bad vegan after all? Sarma Melngailis—whose incredible rise and fall are chronicled in the Netflix docuseries Bad vegan—shares what she thinks the narrative got wrong about her 2016 arrest.
In a March 16 blog post, the former celebrity restaurateur wrote that she felt compelled to set the record straight. “There are several of them bad vegan is fine,” she explained, “but it’s hard not to get stuck on things that are wrong or leave an inaccurate impression.”
Chief among her complaints is that the documentary, released on Netflix on March 16, was ‘very disturbing’ about whether she is still in touch with her ex-husband. Antoine Strangisa.k.a Shane Fox. Despite the phone conversations with the ex that are played out on the show, Sarma insists, “I’m not in contact with Anthony Strangis and I made these recordings much earlier, deliberately, for a specific reason.”
She also claimed she was unaware that an arrest warrant was issued for her and Anthony in 2015. “I didn’t know what funds Anthony had at the time, and I no longer had access to my electronic devices. and to my email/text accounts”. she says. “I can already hear the troll refrain of Yes indeed! but most of what I say is verifiable.”
